Microsoft released the following security and nonsecurity updates for Office in October 2017. These updates are intended to help our customers keep their computers up-to-date. We recommend that you install all updates that apply to you. Outlook for Mac 2016 (march 2017 update - version 15.32 (170309)) - email attachments disappering I updated Outlook for Mac yesterday (3/13) via Microsoft AutoUpdate. I noticed this morning that email attachments (pdf files in both cases) displayed in the reading pane, are not available when I open the emails to read them.

- The information in this article only applies to perpetual versions of Outlook that use the Windows Installer (MSI) installation technology. For example, if you installed a volume licensed version of Outlook, such as Outlook included with Office Professional Plus 2016.

Outlook compatibility with Office 365 and your on-premises environment depends on the system requirements for your deployment:
Office 365 works with any version of Outlook that is in mainstream support, which includes the latest version of Outlook 2016. For previous versions of Outlook, only those that have extended support may continue to work with Office 365, although with reduced functionality. Microsoft is working on a major redesign of both Outlook for Mac and its Windows counterpart. The aim is to simplify the user-interface, bringing it more into line with the iOS app. The iOS app was redesigned back in July.

If the idea of simplifying a desktop app to bring it in line with a mobile one makes your heart sink, it may not involve the compulsory dumbing-down that suggests: The Verge reports that you will still be able to customize the ribbon with your own choice of buttons.
The Mac app will also use trackpad gestures to mimick the iOS UI, such as sliding to delete messages.
Microsoft is said to recognize the importance of the Mac platform, and to acknowledge that Outlook doesn’t deliver the type of experience it should.
2019-1-24 Today, Office 365 is available for the first time on the Mac App Store, making it easier than ever for Mac users to download Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and the whole suite of Microsoft’s popular apps. The software maker admits “MacBooks are popular amongst key influencers and decision makers,” and that the company “needs to win these users by delivering the best Outlook has to offer.” The overall interface will pick up the same ribbon changes and left navigation panel, but Outlook for Mac will also include improvements to search and calendar. Search will be faster and more reliable, and easier to discover in the top right corner of the app. Calendar will also be improved with fly-outs of information, and a better interface for managing appointments.

The new app is currently in internal testing, and will roll out first to Office 365 subscribers before coming to Office 2019.
